The Grand Tour

The Grand Tour

One of our most popular programmes, The Grand Tour is a feast of elegant, sophisticated baroque music from all the main cultural centres of eighteenth century Europe. Featuring music from Handel’s Georgian London to JS Bach’s home city of Leipzig, our programme also offers courtly trios from Versailles, a dash of virtuosity from Vivaldi in Venice – topped off with a helping of folk songs from Scotland. A veritable smorgasbord of baroque delights!

This programme can be adapted to duo, trio, quartet and quintet budgets.

A quartet programme with recorders/flute, violin, viola da gamba and harpsichord typically includes:

G F Handel: Trio Sonata op 2 no4
GP Telemann: ‘Paris Quartet’ no 6 in E minor
M Marais: Pièces de Violes
F Geminiani: Scottish Songs from A Treatise of Good Taste in The Art of Musick
JS Bach, after A Vivaldi: Concerto in A minor BWV 593, (arr Passacaglia)
